CASA Medium and Large category Training and Type Rating - all in-house at Dronestar™

Medium and Large Category Aircraft are those that have a weight above 25KG and less than 150KG and above 150KG. These categories are becoming extremely accessible and popular in a number of industry sectors. The main demand currently being seen exponentially growing, is the agriculture sector, and increasingly, the delivery sector. These aircraft can be very big. They are all extremely powerful, and capable of lifting heavy loads. Many can be custom equipped with specialised sensor equipment to perform job-specific tasks such as cell phone repeater systems, search and rescue activity, fire spotting and mitigation. You name it, these categories can do it.  And that's where opportunity lies. For this course, we generally come to you, deliver your own aircraft if ordered from us, and fly your aircraft. However, we also have our own fleet and training venues in VIC, NSW, SA and QLD.

Licencing
In order to fly any aircraft in these categories commercially, or otherwise, you must have a Remote Pilot's Licence (RePL) in the Multi-Rotor Class. You can join this course, with us, at any time. Click here to see our RePL courses. As soon as you have your RePL, you can then add your CASA 'type rating' on your chosen aircraft. All Aircraft over 25KG must be individually type rated with any pilot wanting to operate them. Our Medium and Large Category courses consist of 2 elements, usually combined, but can be separated for those with experience and are confident in their aircraft knowledge and flight ability. If Type Rating only is chosen, please be aware that we are unable to coach or train you on any systems, and expect you to have a thorough knowledge of your aircraft systems, specification and performance characteristics and limitations.

Day 1 : Training
If you have little to no experience in Medium or Large Category flight and associated aircraft systems, you should book into a training day with us where we'll get you familiarised with your aircraft and train you to a competent level in preparation for your Medium or Large Category flight test and Type Rating.

Day 2 : Type Rating
Once you've completed training on your chosen aircraft and we're happy you're at a level of competence required by CASA, we will flight test you. The flight test is similar to the test you would have taken in your initial RePL with some small variations based on your chosen aircraft. During flight testing, you may be asked a number of questions about the aircraft itself.

Once flight is complete, we'll debrief. Your Medium or Large Category Type Rating will usually be issued same day (depending on location, time complete and Dronestar™ examiner workload) . CASA will then update your Digital Licence, and send you a new paper licence showing your individual type-rating on your chosen aircraft.
